College Apps 101

Students share their input on the behind the scenes of the college application process
College+Apps+101

At Prestonwood Christian Academy, college admissions are taken very seriously from the start of freshman year until the end of senior year. You are trained by guidance counselors on what is expected from you in order to qualify for the certain college you are hoping to attend.

Starting to worry about getting into college your freshman year of high school may sound silly to some, but in reality you are preparing yourself to succeed when it comes time to apply for colleges your senior year.

“With the involvement of our guidance counselors since freshman year, the application process has gone by much smoother than I would have ever hoped for,” said Senior Adrian Martens.

Without the help of our guidance counselors, applying for college would be much more difficult. Thankfully, Prestonwood Christian Academy offers some of the best counselors to set us up for success.

The college application process was not the hard part for most students, the hard part was the waiting time. The waiting time is the most stressful part, as all you want to hear is whether you were admitted or not.

“The essays and application process came easy to me, but the waiting part was the worst. Hearing back from Ole Miss and Texas Tech relieved my nerves right away; I felt accomplished,” said Senior Sofia Little.

Receiving the email that you were accepted into your dream college is a dream come true. Although the waiting process is long and stressful, hearing back that you were accepted is the best news you could ever receive.

At the end of the day, the hard work that you have put in these past three years pays off. You feel so accomplished and grateful that it’s all over. Building up your resume from the very beginning is the best thing I could have ever done for myself, rather than waiting and squeezing all of my activities into one year.

“Preparing myself since my freshman year is the best thing I could have ever done, having all of my community service hours and extracurricular activities completed over the years has made my resume stronger than it could have ever been,” said Senior Lauren Burnett.

As a PCA senior, being able to go through the admissions process with such ease is one of the things that I appreciate the most from my high school. Without any of the resources provided to me throughout my Upper School career, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
