This minimester I got the privilege of going to look at colleges to get a head start on my future. Going into the tours I still do not know what I want to pursue in college so these tours were more about the student life for me and the environment around me.
Starting off I went to Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. From first glance, It was a huge campus. I don’t necessarily think that this college is for me because I can’t see myself living in San Marcos and for me the student life didn’t interest me as much as the student life in the other colleges. I also felt everything on the campus was kind of scattered around and not organized, like classes and sororities.
Next up, I went to the University of Texas at Austin. As much as I didn’t want to like this school because I am an aggie fan, I loved this campus. It was beautiful and amazingly organized, the fraternities and sororities were all lining the campus and each building there was designated for a different career in a way. The student life at UT was amazing, everyone was happy and loud, and it made me feel like I could see myself there.
On the way home, I stopped at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. This campus was beautiful, and I felt they do a very good way of incorporating religion into the college. The buildings were very new, and all the students had great attitudes. I could definitely see myself there for four years, however, it is a private school so that is something to keep in mind when thinking about costs and colleges.
Lastly, I went to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. It had a similar feel to TCU, however I didn’t see as much religion incorporated there as I did at TCU. I did not necessarily like SMU. My dad went there, and he had a great time, but I would love to make my own memories somewhere else. The different groups within the student body were also interesting, as there was a mix of students on scholarship and more privileged kids, as well as some incredibly gifted students.
Overall The University of Texas was my favorite, and I enjoyed learning more about it. All the colleges were amazing though! I recommend touring all of them because everyone has different opinions.
