Movie Reviews: Wonka

Movie+Reviews%3A+Wonka

If you think you want to see the movie Wonka, think again. Don’t waste your money on a ticket and here’s why.
I went into the movie expecting it to be similar to the original movie. I was shocked when I got through half the movie and realized it was set up like a broadway musical. If you have seen the first movie you know it’s darker and not a musical. The new Wonka movie was hard to follow and very musical based. They added characters and set up the movie completely differently than the first one. Instead of doing the original darker and ominous approach on the movie the Wonka movie was very peppy and upbeat. The summary of the movie is explained by Kevin Robbins after reviewing the movie, “My wife and I caught Wonka (the 2023) in theaters last night. The storyline traces Wonka’s lifelong journey to perfect the art of chocolate-making, inspired by his long-lost mother. With dreams of opening his own shop, Wonka faces financial constraints and navigates a world of labor and manipulation. The question remains: can he forge new friendships and still achieve his goals?”
This is supposed to be a movie for children, however, the plot was very broad and extremely hard to follow, let alone keep me awake in the theater. Many have said the Wonka movie was severely underwhelming, the commercials and excitement before the movie came out led everyone to get hyped up about the movie. There was a lot of unnecessary singing in moments that didn’t need the songs. It’s a musical set almost entirely in a fantasy town of chocolatiers with a large British supporting cast and barely any appearances by small orange men with green hair. Basically every scene featuring Hugh Grant is included in the trailer. In reality, Wonka failed to make you use your imagination and took out all the magic of the original movie.
