Boxed Cereal Tradition

Third Grade Book Reports As A Beloved PCA Tradition
Boxed+Cereal+Tradition

The Boxed Cereal Report is a PCA Tradition that all third graders participate in. The Box Cereal Report is where students decorate a Cereal Box for the book they read. Then, they put characters inside the box. While they are presenting, they pull the characters out as they explain their book.

It allows them to be creative with how they decorate the box and how they choose to represent their character by using a symbol or character. The students really enjoy this project.

Third Grade Teacher Mrs. Jeri Bynum said, “It teaches the kids how to be more responsible and expand their reading through reading more difficult novels.”

The kids really enjoyed experiencing different ways to represent themselves and show each of their personalities. Mrs. Bynum said, “This is also a fun way for students to bond with their families.” On this project, the students also got to relate their project to a bible verse.

From a parent perspective, Upper School Film and Broadcasting Teacher Joshua Polite guides his daughter through the project. Genevieve Polite did her book over, A Nest for Celeste, by Henry Cole. Mr. Polite said “It is a bigger book and she learned to take her time while reading a bigger book.”

He also quotes what his daughter struggled with and what she did well on. Mr. Polite said, “She struggles decorating the box about a mouse and a bird, however something she did well on was finishing it quickly.”

Overall, each student enjoyed being creative and learning how to be more responsible. The teachers also enjoyed watching these presentations and learning more about the kids through their chosen books. This will always be a beloved PCA tradition between students, teachers, and parents.
