Meet the Teacher – Ms. Walker

Merritt Harris

What made you decide to come to PCA?
I had been working part-time in a Christian school but wanted to pursue a full-time teaching job in a Christian school. PCA was the perfect fit.

What is your favorite part of PCA so far?
I like so many things! My colleagues in the science department have been supportive and helpful. The PCA student body is full of fun and personality. SAGE is awesome. My most favorite part is Chapel. As I was standing in chapel a few weeks ago, I said to myself, “I’m getting PAID to go to chapel each week and grow spiritually. How great is that!?”

What PCA traditions are you most excited to experience?
I’m excited to experience Homecoming, especially the parade!

How many years have you been teaching?
This is my 6th year.

What made you realize you wanted to become a teacher?
I started in the food and beverage industry right after college. I worked in the Starbucks roasting plant’s lab and later in their HQ in Seattle. I got my teaching certificate much later in life. It seemed like a great ‘second act’, and I think working with teens keeps a person young.

What college did you go to?
Ouachita Baptist University

What do you teach?
CP Chem and STEM Methods
