The Early Bird Gets the Worm

This middle schooler is taking an early start to high school athletics.

As middle schoolers, Prestonwood students get the exciting opportunity to begin on the athletic path they may follow for the rest of their high school or potentially college career! Reflecting on how significant these years were for me, I interviewed middle school student Story Hartman who decided to join her first varsity sport, competitive cheer, as a seventh grader.
Story explains how she “did all star cheerleading from a young age” and saw a lot of potential for personal growth in joining Comp Cheer at Prestonwood. “It’s also really nice getting to spend time with the older girls. I really like how special comp is, like how we get to be a 7-12th grade team,” Story says. Lots of middle schoolers feel intimidated by upper school students, so what specifically makes being with high schoolers fun? According to Story, “It’s honestly like having a bunch of big sisters, I love it! Especially during our trip to Orlando, they helped me get ready and do my hair.” What a great way to build lifelong bonds and friendships! How is being on a varsity sports team different from being in a middle school sport? “The biggest thing really is just how much everyone cares and works hard,” Story says, “I feel so motivated by everyone at every practice!” The fellowship built in sports is so powerful and so fun! Middle schoolers, get excited for all you have to look forward to!
