Once again the Prestonwood Christian Academy marching band compete in the TPSMEA state marching competition. This competition is held each year at Fort Worth Christian School in Fort Worth, TX. Private Christian and parochial schools from all over the state, but most bands choose not to compete most likely due to the drive; rather choosing to compete in TAPPS, a more centralized location being in Waco, TX.
The band has had excellent runs of the show throughout the fall sports season. All of the members were very confident in their performance abilities to bring their all for the ultimate final show.
Junior Micah Jones said, “I felt good about this performance, I felt like we did really well.”
Junior Colton Mills said, “I felt like both performances were great. Our teachers and instructors did an excellent job in preparing us for the competition, and keeping us hyped up, yet calm and focused.”
When the band was done performing, they had a couple of hours of free time to relax, grab a bite to eat, or interact with the other bands before the awards ceremony.
Colton said, “I liked getting to watch the other bands after we had performed; it was nice being able to talk to other schools and see their shows, which we haven’t gotten to do all season.”
Being a little smaller than they were in previous years, they were put into the division I category rather than the division II category. While at the same time the previous reigning champion for the smaller category, Nolan Catholic High School, grew and was placed among the bigger bands.
With less competition, the band almost made a clean sweep with the caption, or awards for best sections like woodwinds, brass, color guard, drumline, and drum major. The only award for division I that the band did not receive was Outstanding Woodwinds, which was awarded to All Saints Episcopal School. With all that being said, it was clear to see the winner of the 2024 TPSMEA state marching competition the Prestonwood Christian Academy Mighty Lion band.
Receiving first place was a welcome surprise to all the members and staff, who had a feeling from the beginning that this was going to be a successful year for the band.
Colton said, “ I was surprised about the drumline results, as I thought we would have placed lower since the music was not completely clean yet, the marching show, however, makes sense.”
The band has already competed in TAPPS competition and after TPSMEA the drumline plans to compete at the Lewisville drumline invitational Saturday, November 8th. See Y’all there!
