Every Practice…Every Game…every class period has been working up for this moment. It’s competition season for the Prestonwood Christian Academy Marching Band, and the band is more ready than ever to put out their best performance of the fall season. TAPPS, or Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools, hosts competitions for all kinds of sports from football to swimming, and even surprisingly, band.
The marching competition is usually held in Waco, a large, centralized location where bands from across the Lone Star State can come and compete without it being too far of a drive. This year, it was hosted at the Waco ISD Sports Complex. When events are far away, there’s always an adventure in store.
Junior Micah Jones said, “ My favorite part for TAPPS was definitely the bus ride where I could talk with my friends.”
Freshman Hannah Gladwin said, “My favorite part of the trip was getting to go to Sixth Street and Bucees after the competition.”
Being far away also means an early call time, so the band can get have a pre-performance run to make sure everything works, and have plenty of time to drive to Waco ISD Athletic Complex and be on time.
Hannah said, “Although our call time was early, it gave me something to look forward to.”
Upon arriving, the competition has two divisions: standstill and marching, the latter of which the band entered into. Although nervous, the band had the advantage of going last, as the higher scores are usually given to the performances later in the day. The band was surprisingly pleased when they received 2nd place in their division.
Hannah said, “We came in second place, and it was our first time competing in TAPPS, so I am very happy with the results.”
Micah said, “I was a little surprised by our results, but I was excited that we placed so high.”
The Mighty Lions have also already competed in the TPSMEA State Marching competition and will have the Lewisville Invitational Drumline competition later this November on Saturday the 9th.
