Imagine a science lesson that excited you to learn more about the environment. Well, there is! At PCA, an annual tradition called High Touch High Tech is designated scientific decisions and experiments that are made for the kids to enjoy during their school days! For every grade level, there is an engaging scientist who owns the High touch tech company that comes in and helps kids at least once every other month.
High Touch High Tech has a personalized science lesson for each kid depending on their grade level and the type of science they are learning. This is a way for the kids to have engaging lessons during a long day at school!
Mrs. Norris, a Fourth-Grade teacher, says, “HTHT gives the kids hands-on experience with abstract concepts. It allows them to make connections with science and makes the material make sense to them. The team explains lessons such as how catapults operate, and the kids can even try to make their own, which I believe is super cool!
We see that the High Touch High Tech company provided great insight for the kids on science and how they discuss real-life machines that help people in their everyday lives. Allowing the kids to create a mini catapult can contribute to experimentation, and teamwork skills, and create future STEM-building skills.
Ms. Bynum, a Third Grade teacher talks about her favorite memories over the years from the experience:
“In Third Grade, we do two HTHT experiments: The Weather and the Inventor’s Closet. My favorite part about the weather is the students learning about how storms are created and the students get to create their tornadoes. My favorite part of Inventor’s Closet is how they can come up with different inventions, and substances, and the kids get to create their ice cream. The kids have also created snow and learn about how different chemicals work together to create that.”
Lower School HTHT allows students the opportunities to enhance their future knowledge, gain creativity and innovation skills, and overall a fun, engaging time for all of the LS kids!
