Be strong and courageous, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. This year, the 2024 theme for this year’s Band show is entitled Lion of Judah, with songs such as Count ‘Em, Lion, and Praise by Brandon Lake. The band reminds their audience to be strong in times of trouble, never to give up, and to remember that the Lord is in control.
Sophomore Chaeah Yoon said, “I really love this year’s show music. I think it also fits well with this year’s verse ‘Be strong and courageous.’ Most of our music like Count ‘em and Praise both have a strong beginning and strong ending.”
Junior Colton Mills said, “I think the music we have is a perfect match for the visuals we have, just the right amount of tension and power.”
The band is off to a great start this year, as competition for this year is only a couple of weeks away. Even though the band has decreased in size considerably from last year, the band is determined to give it their all with each and every game.
Sophomore Micah Jones said, “Because I’m the only trumpet I have to overcome the challenge of not only making sure I make little to no mistakes, but also that I must never lay out to take a breath unless I absolutely need to.”
During the show, the drumline and front ensemble have a moment all on their own. With funky beats and unusual time signatures written almost entirely by the drumline themselves, it’s always nice to see what their creative minds are up to. The rest of this band during this part of the show is out and about having a great time dancing, doing flag work, and even moving an entire drumset around on a cart.
Chaeah said, “My favorite part of the show is drum break because I love to see drumline having their moment, but also the wind players are doing something other than playing instruments; they dance, do color guard work, and help move the drums around. That stuff is pretty fun.”
The halftime show is full of fun dances and creative tunes that are sure to get your feet moving and have you singing along with the band. Be sure to stick around next halftime at the varsity football games every Friday to watch the band put on a show you’re sure to remember.
