Step Into the Spotlight: Unveiling the Magic of This Season’s Must-See Play. This year theatre director Pam Hurt selected The Taming of the Shrew, written by Shakespeare, but adapted by director Pam Hurt to have a western setting.
When asked the question “Why did you adapt the play to have a western scenario?” Director Pam Hurt said, “ I adapted the play into a western theme to make it more approachable for today’s audience.”
Shakespeare is known for his plays, which are sometimes considered unorthodox according to today’s standards. So Director Pam Hurt had to re-adjust the play so it will be more appealing to younger audiences and less difficult to understand. Shakespeare’s play is an energetic comedy full of twists and turns. But now with a western twist, it will be even more playful and comedic, only now including stage combat. The stage combat choreographer is former tech theater teacher Seth Monhollon.
Junior Blake Dunham who is playing Pete Petruchio, said “ I’m looking forward to stage combat and finally being able to do a Shakespeare play.”
Senior Ava Grace Harbison playing Bianca Minola said “ I’m looking forward to learning more about theatre and making new friendships with the cast.”
And Senior Thatcher Chron playing Lucas Vincentio said “I am looking forward to all the fun we’re going to have at rehearsals and my theater production.”
