The effects that cell phones have on the general public have been very destructive to the young minds of our generation. The loving and caring staff at PCA set out to change the effects of phones for the better and show the student body the true meaning of high school fellowship should be more than just a screen. It should be focused on bonding with your brothers and sisters in Christ and to have a strong focus on personal interaction.
Dean of Upper School students, Mrs. Jillian Bryant had to say, “The original motive was actually started by a book called The Anxious Generation, this book shows that the effects of phones actually increase things like depression, stress, and anxiety. It is also a constant distraction due to all of the constant notifications.”
The positive effects have already been showing just a few weeks into school. Upper School Technology teacher Mrs. Kelley McLeod said, “Students are more engaged with one another and are creating meaningful relationships with one another.”
The positive effects have not only been noticed by teachers and administration but also the students themselves. At first glance, many people in the student body felt like the phone rules were useless and a waste of time. But as time went on, the students warmed up to the idea as they experienced life without them. Senior Cruise Hildrebrand said,”One of the many positive effects of the new phone rule is that it helps me build relationships with my fellow students.”
The phone rule change has been an interesting transition for Upper School students, but in the end, it seems that administration made a great choice by doing this due to their love for the students.
