The PCA Middle School Honor Guard is made up of approximately twenty sixth-grade students who have a strong desire to honor the Lord by demonstrating a love for their country. The students are taught how to properly fold the flag into a triangle using the 13-fold method. The students participate in a flag ceremony at the beginning and end of each school day for one week a month. The Honor Guard also presents the American flag at various ceremonies and worship times during the school year. This is a prestigious honor to protect our country’s flag and to keep it in the best condition possible. Each day, students raise and lower the flag to help ensure its protection.
Sixth grader Mason Fallin said, “Every time I raise the flag with my friends it helps remind me of the free country we live in. I also want to encourage the 5th graders to join the honor guard and take it seriously.”
It is great to teach students to respect our country’s flag, and what it truly represents.
Sixth grader Jake Stewart said, “I feel respected by others, and like I’m serving other people.” The students can look outside during the day and see the flag they put up. It serves as a reminder of the sacrifice our men and women made.
Sixth grader Maryanne Hilton said, “I enjoy unfolding the flag and folding it properly.” The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In the 13th and last fold, when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost, reminding us of our national motto, “In God We Trust.”
Middle School Assistant Principal Mr. Doar said, “My favorite aspect of Honor Guard is teaching students about patriotism and honoring the flag. I also like to teach our students about service and commitment in events like the homecoming parade and World Impact Day.” Honor Guard students have the opportunity to hold a country’s flag on World Impact Day in front of the entire school. They also have the opportunity to march through the homecoming parade.
The PCA Middle School Honor Guard, made up of enthusiastic Sixth Graders, shows a strong respect for their country and its flag. Each month, they lead flag ceremonies at school and take part in special events. They learn how to properly fold the flag and keep it in great condition. This role helps them feel proud and reminds them of the sacrifices made by others. As they perform their duties, they gain a deeper appreciation for patriotism and service, encouraged by their principal and their own experiences.
