What age were you when you started coaching?
I started coaching at age 24.
How many hours a week do you work on coaching?
In season, about 70 to 75 hours of coaching.
Name one thing you are working to improve right now?
I would say more patience and work balance.
What’s something you need your players to do for a meet/game?
Honor God with their words and actions, and always give their best.
How would your players describe you?
My players would describe me as passionate, demanding, God loving, and that I have a tough-love mentality.
Who is your role model, and why?
Bob Lambie, my high school head coach, who was like a second father to me. He taught me how to be a man, how to work hard, and not make excuses. Also, Pastor Don Wilson helped lead me to Jesus.
What is the hardest thing about coaching?
The time that goes into it.
Name something that stresses you out:
The pressure in critical times, and when kids or coaches make excuses or create alibis.
Name a recent accomplishment you are proud of, and why?
My 3rd grandchild was born last week.
Favorite thing to do after a win with your team?
Give them an occasional Saturday off… they love that. But more importantly, challenge the team to all attend church on Sunday, win or lose.
Name one thing about yourself that most people don’t know?
I was homeless at 19 years old when my mother passed away.
Before this season ends, I want to ___?
I want our kids to know they are loved regardless of the scoreboard and to know their identity is solely in Jesus. We want to win, be excellent in all things, and strive to be the best that we can be.
