In the midst of homecoming festivities, upper school students take a moment to honor standouts among their grades. Before homecoming week, each grade votes on three to four guys and girls for their leadership and Christlike qualities to represent their grade on homecoming court. Those selected for court attend several meetings and practices where they select, choreograph, and practice the dance they will perform during the homecoming pep rally.
Sophomore Blake Dunham said, “I really enjoy getting to dance and celebrate our school and its traditions.” The dances are one of the most loved parts of the homecoming pep rally.
Junior Presley Elfarr enjoys watching them because “they remind me of my time in lower school and bring back the joy of those memories.”
Another aspect of homecoming court is getting recognized on the field during the homecoming game. Each member is escorted by their parent or guardian and gets announced in front of the PCA family.
Junior Ava Allen shared that “my favorite part is getting to walk across the field with my dad,” because it’s a cool opportunity to share a special moment with him.
Court has some extra significance for the seniors, as the homecoming king and queen are selected out of the senior court members. While the homecoming season is hectic, the traditions are what make it memorable and homecoming court provides a welcome opportunity for the school to slow down and celebrate the leaders in our student body.
