Game, Set, Match!

Follow the Lion’s Tennis Season!
Game%2C+Set%2C+Match%21

Tennis season has officially started and it’s extremely exciting. This year the Lions tennis team is looking at a real chance at competing at state, and winning. The tennis team practices at Oak Creek Tennis Center a few minutes away from the Plano campus.

During practice, their coach, Alex Baker, divides the team onto different courts to target everyones’ individual strengths and weaknesses to perform better in matches. Each practice also consists of different workouts including agility and endurance practice to ensure that the team is in shape for matches and tournaments.

Junior Donya Kinley said, “Our team is like one big family that all loves each other and is there for each other no matter what.” By having a team that is like family, it is easier to communicate during matches, practice, or even about personal life.

Sophomore Jacob O’Quinn said “My favorite part about being on the tennis team is getting to split up and work on different skills everyday.” It is extremely important to ensure that everyone is working on specific skills that they need to focus on in order to have the best outcome in matches.

Senior Grant Brasher said, “One thing that I have learned from being on this team for 6 years is that no matter how good you are at the sport, having a support system that is your team automatically makes playing the sport worthwhile.” The tennis team grows up together. Most seniors have played on the team since middle school because of how much fun playing is, but also the teammates.

The tennis team consists of a family aspect that brings the team closer together. Although matches are individual, the team works together in every match whether it is chasing balls, grabbing water for their teammates, or simply cheering them on while they are on court. The Lion tennis team is a big family.

The team would appreciate any cheering or support that they can get as they go into districts, and then their road to state. We hope to see you at the courts.
