Let George Do It is an educational, entertaining, and fun way for second grade students to understand the history of our nation and our founding fathers. Singing songs about our first president, George Washington and the Revolutionary War helps teach the students at a young age about America’s fight for independence in a way that does not involve a classroom setting. 

Second grade students prepare for weeks leading up to the show, learning about the Revolutionary War, memorizing lines, getting colonial costumes and learning songs and hand motions.

With the production coming up this year, older students reflect on their time as Second grade students preparing and performing Let George Do It. Senior Audrey Meece says that her favorite song in the production was “Cherry Tree Chop.” She also says “a close second is the classic ‘Let George Do It” and says that she still remembers “most of the words to that song.” 

Let George Do It  is a great way for these students to make memories that they are able to look back on fondly. “One memory that I loved the most was getting to dress up like the people in that time period and seeing all my friends dressed up,” says freshman, Ava Allen. Years later, these songs still come to the students’ minds and bring up fond memories.

This experience not only allows the kids to perform in front of parents, faculty, and peers but also helps them feel connected in some way with the birth of our great nation. It is crucial for kids at a young age to understand the war, sacrifice, and people which are the reasons we are able to live in a free nation. And there is no better way to do this than putting on a performance about it.
