As graduation approaches, many high school seniors find themselves battling a familiar condition known as senioritis. Senioritis is the loss of motivation and energy that often hits students during their final few months of school. Assignments feel more exhausting and challenging, assignments feel optional, and the excitement of what college offers takes away the focus on finishing the year strong.
For many seniors, senioritis starts from second quarter burnout. Years of balancing classes, extracurriculars, and college applications can take a toll on someone physically and mentally. Once acceptance letters arrive or graduation is right around the corner, it becomes tempting to mentally “zone out.” The finish line feels close, and the pressure of finishing senior year strongly stops.
Senior JP Mumert says, “The hardest challenge of second semester senior year is waking up on time for my first and fifth period.”
However, senioritis can have real consequences like slipping grades, missed assignments, and poor attendance can affect final transcripts and grades. The good news is that senioritis can still be managed. Setting small goals and also maintaining a routine can help restore motivation.
Senioritis may be common, but it doesn’t have to define the end of high school. By pushing through the final stretch, Seniors can end high school on a good note and start the next chapter of their life motivated.
