Electives in the Middle School have taken off these past few years, with lots of options for electives of all interests! Some of these electives include theater, choir, art, band, student leadership institute, study skills, journalism, and aerospace engineering. Some of these newer and more selective interests of electives for the middle school students encourage students to expand their academic career and push them to find what interests them outside of their core classes. These classes also give students an opportunity to take a break from primary coursework and often give them something to look forward to each day.
Arabella Anderson, a seventh-grade journalism student, said she “interviews students, analyzes recent news and reports, learning how to write articles, and manages social media properly.”
Another new and fascinating elective available for middle school students to take is aerospace engineering.
Trevor Beckles, another seventh-grade student, said he participates in “projects with partners to build model planes, and take measurements with some math.”
Some students take multiple electives.
Delanie Clarke takes the study skills and student leadership institute and said that study skills “is reading comprehension, how to write emails, and learning public speaking,” and SLi is “how to lead and how to stand up for yourself and for other people.”
Middle school students have a wide range of electives to choose from and many different paths of interests outside of their core classes. These electives help students broaden their academic careers and a chance to participate in classes that speak to them.
