AP Classes
Seniors take on advanced placement courses
With a new year, there are more classes to offer. Many students – namely, juniors and seniors – decide to take on the challenge of AP courses. Some may not know what exactly an AP course is. According to the College Board, “AP courses are college-level classes for high school students created by the College Board, offering rigorous academic work and the opportunity to earn college credit by passing a standardized AP exam.”
Senior Tomi Okunfulure said, “AP classes are more challenging than honors due to more commitment and the ending exam at the end of the year putting more pressure on you throughout the year.” The benefit of taking AP classes is a +1.00 point to a student's GPA, although this is a big pro, many do not want to take on the massive amounts of work for the whole school year.
Taking AP classes does more than just boost a GPA; it teaches grit. Senior Hannah Klinge said, “I learned discipline because you are forced to study or else you will be left behind and fail the class.” Working hard for something is worth the pain. Earning college credit in high school can set you up for the future.
When applying to colleges, AP classes stand out and can make the difference in your application go above and beyond. Senior Connor Moffitt said, “Taking several AP classes will make my application stand out, showing colleges I am prepared for the college transition.”
When thinking about your future, consider taking AP courses for the betterment of your academic career.
