Speech and Debate Takes on Summer Competition
Speech and Debate travels to Des Moines
Speech and Debate made its mark on the national stage for the first time this summer. Not only did it put the speech and debate team on the map for many other schools to see, but it also brought home a trophy. Students from across the country gather to compete in a match between skilled debaters.
Nationals brought together hundreds of the best to compete with one another. Each round tests the students ability to deliver a speech or make a powerful point.
Alumni Nami Adenle said, “It was such an incredible experience to compete against the best of the best and spread the gospel. I’ve truly learned so much from speech and debate.
The debates and expressive events gave students the power to express individuality and bring to light topics that explored many topics. Judges not only evaluated their knowledge, but also their pose and presentation.
PCA Alumni Numi Adenle ’25, shared, “Not only was this my first year in speech and debate, but my first year truly putting myself out there, and it paid off.”
With multiple rounds of performance, the Adenles made it to the finals and placed sixth overall out of 250.
Sophomore Regina Villalobos said, “I am so proud of what our team has accomplished and what the team has become. This program not only highlights our strengths but also helps build meaningful connections.”
“Debate has been a strong addition to PCA, and we are so excited to see what the team will achieve this year,” said Speech and Debate Coach, Mrs. Kris Compton.
