The STEM honors program is starting up again for the new 2025-2026 school year. Members participate in monthly meetings and spend time outside of school researching their project to potentially compete in competitions. Students must take two semesters of classes, one consisting of research methods and the other requiring a presentation to the STEM honors faculty and staff.
Senior Cameron Hill said, “Running my own experiment and researching something I’m interested in is my favorite part about STEM honors and why I do it.”
Brainstorming and working on their own experiments is why many students love STEM.
Senior Colette Ko said, “Getting to run my own experiment is what I’m looking forward to this year.”
Even the teacher, Mrs. Blaine, enjoys teaching and helping her kids in STEM.
Mrs. Blaine said, “Seeing my students succeed in experiments that interest them is my favorite part about teaching STEM honors, and I’m looking forward to this upcoming year.”
While the STEM honors program is just getting started, and students are still in early stages of brainstorming, Mrs. Blaine and the members expect great things this year. They have a class on the first Friday of every month, consisting of various speakers related to the field. There is also a required class for the semester to work together and brainstorm ideas with their peers in class. The students are excited for the idea of creating new interesting projects and looking forward to the new year of possibilities!
