Future Problem Solvers (FPS) is starting up again for the 2025-2026 school year. Each year, teams of four people in every grade level brainstorm, create, and use ideas to solve futuristic problems in all scenarios at competitions in school and at the state in Waco in April. Using the six-step solving process, students learn to collaborate with their teams, build communication skills, and make friends.
Second-year member senior, Lulu Presbrey, said, “Competing with my friends at the state competition in Waco at the end of the year is my favorite part about FPS.”
Each year, teams compete at Waco for the state competition. It's a very exciting moment for both students and teachers.
Senior Abel Mathew said, “Going to Waco and spending time with friends is my favorite part about the extracurricular activity.
But the academic competition is more than just making friends.
Senior Amaia Scholl said, “Working together and growing as a team has been the most beneficial thing for me in my four years of FPS.”
While the year is just getting started, members are excited to see what the new year holds for new topics and a system of categories within the teams. Students will compete in local competitions three times before the state competition to further practice and improve problem-solving skills. With new topics, teams, and opportunities, members look forward to the upcoming year of solving futuristic problems. Future Problem Solvers expect a great year ahead and plan to send at least one team to Internationals in Indianapolis each summer!
