Dr. Seuss Week is dedicated to the Pre-K 3 kids in the PCA LS and was held February 24th – March 4th of 2025 this year. This week is held to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss, which was on March 2nd and is usually during Read Across America Week, associated with the National Education Association. Dr. Suess being a part of RAA (Read Across America) week helps encourage kids and communities to celebrate reading worldwide. PCA having their Pre-K 3 students engage in Dr. Seuss Week not only creates a fun way for kids to get into reading and learn knowledge, but they are also able to have fun with their friends and learn something new!
I got the privilege to speak with Ms. Wade, who is a Pre-K 3 teacher and gave me some insight on Dr. Seuss Week and how she believes the week benefits the kids!
Ms. Wade said, “Many people, including us, celebrate the week and it is a book and author study on Dr. Seuss and his work. Each grade level does an author study in the LS, but Pre-K 3 is specifically Dr. Seuss and we do it during his birthday week! PCA has been doing this tradition for as long as I can remember and the kids love it! We put different centers focused around Dr. Seuss and they have different dress-up days during the week that go along with the Dr. Seuss books and the kids have fun with it!”
Getting some insight from Ms. Wade on Dr. Seuss Week gives more exploration of how creativity is implanted in the kid’s daily learning routines. I even had the privilege to speak to one of her students to hear their personal perspective on the week as well!
Miles, a student in Ms. Wade’s Pre-K 3 class said, “I got to dress super wacky and I did have to dress normal on Wacky Wednesday! It was fun for me!
Sounds like what Ms. Wade was saying is true about the kids truly having fun with their friends and getting to do something different at school! It’s nice to know that Dr. Seuss has created a positive impact on motivating kids to read, but also learning about the history of an all-time favorite children’s book author!
