Graduation is coming around the corner and PCA’s Class of 2025 couldn’t be more excited for it to come along! We are in the final nine weeks of the school year, so it becomes pretty tough showing up to classes knowing that you’re basically done. At this point, I am sure every high school senior at some point in their final year has experienced a feeling which is known as “Senioritis”. According to the Oxford Dictionary, Senioritis is when a student in their final year of high school or college experiences a decline in motivation in academic performance. Symptoms are usually grades dropping, increased tardiness and absences, a lack of effort in studying, and overall feeling burnt out from school. This comes after students get accepted into college and decide not to try anymore, or are just ready to start the next chapter of their lives. For whatever reason, a student suffers from Senioritis, I believe it is a disease that can be beaten if we put in the slightest effort towards our school work until graduation.
Senioritis is one the most popular terms worldwide for seniors, so I decided to ask some of the seniors from my class why they suffer from senioritis.
Senior Wolf Braasch, a student-athlete committed to Texas Tech University said, “I want to enjoy my last couple of months and feel as if I have been a hard-working student-athlete these past couple of years. I know that I would work harder towards classes that go towards my major because of my general interest in them.”
I mean it is fair that anyone would work harder for classes towards their major, and I at least attempt to put in effort in my online college classes and try to finish the last nine weeks of school.
Senior Savannah Sanderson said, “Since I have been accepted into college, it is sometimes hard to put in 100 percent effort in my schoolwork. I will always go to class for the test, no excuses there.”
As we see, there is some slight effort made to keep our grades up since most colleges need your high school transcript at the end of the year, which was a smart idea on their end for kids to not completely flunk the end of high school.
Senior Cooper Hess said, “I am here for educational purposes, but I am counting down the days till graduation. I try not to be late most days and attempt to finish my work.”
Senior Marley Dickens said, “Taking classes that best suit my major is the best option for my last year at PCA since I am taking those classes in college anyway.”
Overall, the case of senioritis is not as bad as I thought it would be for most seniors, and I truly believe we are all here to finish our work and get our diplomas at the end of the day. Every last senior is trying to take in the most of everything while it lasts… but we are definitely ready to graduate from high school. GO LIONS!
