The District tennis tournament is in the books, and our team walked away with both hard-fought wins and valuable lessons. While not every match ended in victory, each player left it all on the court, showing heart, determination, and sportsmanship that made the team and school proud.
In singles play, junior Blake Roberts faced off against JP11’s No. 2 player and came out swinging. He dominated the first set with a creative mix of off-speed backhands and powerful forehand winners. Though he narrowly lost in a third-set tiebreaker, Blake Robert’s first-half performance was a standout moment of the tournament. His strong showing signals a bright future, and Coach Davidson confidently predicted, “You’re going to State next year.”
The tournament’s most anticipated doubles matchup featured our own Aidan Petrof and Connor Moffit squaring off against Jason and Nicholas in a high-level battle. With impressive teamwork and steady nerves, Aidan Petrof and Connor Moffit pulled off the win in two tight sets. “There were many fine points on display for the fans,” Coach Davidson noted, adding a bit of humor by clarifying that, per PCA Best Practices, no actual bets were placed—just good tennis and plenty of competitive energy.
But the biggest headline of the day belonged to Graham, who secured third place in boys’ singles and earned a coveted spot at the State tournament in two weeks. Known for his quiet demeanor and mental toughness, Graham Engstrom elevated his game with impressive net play, giving him a well-rounded edge. “I couldn’t be happier for this modest young man who’s now receiving accolades for his fine tennis play,” Coach Davidson said proudly.
Though District play is done, the season isn’t over yet. With Graham Engstrom heading to State, the team will continue preparing and supporting one another.
Let’s go, team!
