At PCA, the second graders in the Lower School put on an annual performance every year with the musical “Let George Do It!”. The musical was originally written by Mrs. Young, a former PCA music teacher, and the play was about George Washington’s life. This has been a tradition for over twenty years at PCA and continues to bring laughter and joy to anyone who watches it because of how much enthusiasm and hard work is put into the show. The second graders always put this musical on for the first graders, and this year, it will be held on February 21, 2025, at 9:00 am in the PBC Choir Room.
Recently though, PCA has been blessed with Mrs. Harder, another amazing and talented Lower School music teacher, who has been teaching the second graders since September all their songs and lines to help them prepare for their performance. With this only being her second year at PCA, I was blessed to have asked her about her experiences with doing LGDI with the little kids and the BTS of how the process goes with teaching a bunch of seven and eight-year-olds!
Mrs. Harder, the Lower School music teacher says, “The students are so excited to perform and learn LGDI because they had siblings in the past and some of them know most of the songs by heart. Although it can be difficult at times just because of such an excitable group of those kids, they always work hard to learn the material well, which I always appreciate!”
Asking the music teacher for some BTS information is truly incredible because of the hard work and dedication it takes to put on LGDI, You have been here for a while, and you know that performance is never an easy task!
Mrs. Harder also says, “The second graders also go on a rotation schedule, so sometimes I only see the children once every five class days, so I definitely have to plan ahead, and it can be challenging at times.”
Overall, LGDI is an amazing performance that is truly unforgettable for the students and definitely for the parents! The reflection of the work those students put into their performance is incredible and Mrs. Harder has done an amazing job handling all the kids, making sure their costumes are ready, their lines are memorized (enough), and there is creativity that goes above and beyond to create a musical of George Washington!
