Optimism is a powerful asset. The Boys Varsity Soccer team plans to capitalize on the “could haves” of last season.

After a defeat in the first round of playoff action at the hands of Brownsville last year, the Lions have room to improve this season.

Anyone who knows Head Coach Todd O’Neal, knows practice is not taken lightly. But, Coach O’Neal’s zealous practice methods should pay off once deep in the season.

Senior Captain Chance Fielder said, “We’re invested in the outcome, and we know we have to prove ourselves.”

Stand outs this season include Senior Carter Grundstrom who serves as a strong man in the back on defense and Senior Alex Song who is new this year and helps on the attack. Senior Micah Scheuermann leads the team in scoring.

The team begins the second half of district play hoping to pull in a few more wins and earn a playoff berth. Three home games remain including Trinity Christian, John Paul II and Bishop Dunne.

Coming off a strong season that stretched into the first round of the playoffs, the Girls Varsity Soccer team looks to make this season the best in a long time.

With extensive Senior talent, including Maddie Dorsett who has committed to play at the University of Texas and Melody Jayroe who has committed to Liberty University, and a new “Big Sis/Little Sis” mentorship program, the Lady Lions feel very optimistic that this season will live up to the surrounding hype.

Stacked with experience and talent, the Lady Lions have an “us versus the world” mentality. Coach Stan Renfro, now in his second year, leads a group with a fierce competitive spirit.

Senior Captain Rachel Mathes said, “I lead the younger players by pushing my teammates to their full potential.”

The team has three more regular season games at home including Bishop Lynch, John Paul II and Nolan.
