Basketballin’ Into the New Season

The Start to the Varsity Basketball Season

Boys Varsity Basketball Season Kickoff
The Start to the Varsity Basketball Season
By Staff Writer Alexis Wilson

Basketball season is finally here and everyone is so excited to jump start the season. The boys basketball team has worked hard throughout the fall in order to prepare for the season. The basketball team is currently 9-3. The team has trained vigorously to make this the best season yet.

Varsity has started playing their district games and are on the road to state.
Junior Tyler Murphy said, “my hope for the season is to win a state championship with my teammates.” The team has practiced extensively throughout the year in order to make this dream a reality

Each of the players work in and out of the school gym. The team also values maintaining their academics. Maintaining academics is extremely important to the team and is a major contributor to success. Extracurricular work is a vital part of getting better at the game.
Junior Jalen Shelley said, “I work with a trainer 4 days a week outside of school in order to accelerate my success.”

The most important part of a team is the dynamic it shares. This team heavily values and relies on each other and their relationships because it makes the court communication much smoother. By maintaining strong relationships off the court it makes communicating on court much more comfortable and effortless.
Sophomore Francis Chukwudebelu said, “We are all becoming like brothers through basketball, and through Christ.” Basketball has allowed this team to grow close, and have a family-like bond.

Above all, the most important thing about the Lions basketball team is their dedication to Christ in every game. The team has chapel before each game to start their games off on the right track, and remind them who they are playing for.

The basketball team needs all the support they can get, so make sure to show up with your team spirit for their games.
Sophomore Bryceson Melvin said, “the best way to come support us is to bring your school spirit to any game you can and cheer as loud as you can.”

This team has worked extremely hard to work toward a championship. The team has a few district games left to place them toward state, so come out when you can.
