December Calls For Traditions

Students share their most favorite traditions that they celebrate every Christmas.
December+Calls+For+Traditions

It is the most wonderful time of the year and the magical month of December is here. This Christmas brings about another year full of annual traditions (or some tend to call it a “Yuletide ritual”) to check off the Christmas to-do list. Christmas time means families gathering together for the holidays to get ready for the unique, exciting holiday traditions that they take part in year after year.

There are a variety of pleasurable traditions that families choose to partake in every year. These include leaving out cookies for Santa, going caroling, advent calendars, matching pajamas, decorating the Christmas tree, ice skating, Elf on the Shelf, or even watching a classic Christmas movie.

Junior Paytyn Ferrell said, “My favorite tradition is going with my family to a local Christmas tree farm and picking out the perfect tree.”

This is a great idea for people to bond with their families, check off a wonderful Christmas activity from the list, and obtain that perfect, real Christmas tree scent in your home.

The holiday season is so enjoyable, but the traditions are what create the lasting memories for years to come. They can be something that will never be forgotten in the future. What is so neat about a yearly tradition is that it is generational and is something everyone can recreate with their own families one day.

Junior Camille Edwards said, “Throughout the years, my family has always decorated Christmas cookies which I am excited to continue this year. We also enjoy going over to my grandma’s house on Christmas Eve.”

She shared a new tradition that she is going to implement to make more memories this holiday season.

“Closer to Christmas, my friends and I are going to hold a gift exchange and have a Christmas movie marathon,” said Camille.

This exemplifies a new tradition being born while incorporating loved ones into such a nostalgic, yet family oriented time of year.

The best part of Christmas traditions is the uniqueness from one person to the next.

Junior Bailey Shea said, “Something unique about our family is we all open one Christmas present on Christmas Eve and get matching pajamas to wear on Christmas morning.”

Christmas traditions are always an endearing part of every holiday season.

Getting to see everyone’s (old fashioned, or new) traditions helps others get fun ideas for people to start this year to make this holiday season the sweetest yet. As they say, it is the most wonderful time of the year, especially sharing it with the people that you love.
