Destinee Baker
This is the lion of the week from girls Varsity soccer.

When did you start playing soccer?

I was 4 years old when I started playing soccer.

How many hours a week do you practice?

I practice for 9.5 hours a week.

Name one thing you are working to improve right now?

Endurance.

Pre-game ritual?

Watch the motivational video title- “Why Do We Fall” by Mateusz M on youtube, followed by listening to Thunderstruck by AC/DC.

What’s something you need to do for a game?

Tape my wrist and thumb.

How would your teammates describe you?

A leader.

Who is your role model, and why?

My old Goalkeeper coach, Courtney Flores. She taught me the basics and helped me make tough decisions. She lives a life through Christ, and never fails to encourage me when I need it.

What is the hardest thing about soccer?

Understanding what will happen next before it happens.

Name something that stresses you out, and why?

When the coach says “get on the line” because we never know if we are running for 10 or 45 minutes.

Name a recent accomplishment you are proud of, and why?

TAPPS Goalkeeper of the year. I took a break from soccer in the beginning of highschool, because I lost sight of my purpose. My Junior year was when I came back, I played my heart out for my school, giving everything I have and was rewarded Goalkeeper of the year when I opened my phone and saw it, I was very happy and content.

Before I graduate, I want to ___, and why?

Make sure people understand where their identity is, because it took me longer than it should have to find mine in Christ.

Name one thing about yourself that most people don’t know?

I listen to 80s music 24/7.
