How families are serving the community this Thanksgiving Holiday

Thanksgiving is the time of year where people choose to be thankful for what they have. This year every student gets to pack boxes for Operation Christmas Child on Service project day with their advisories. Students on their own, in addition to service project day, serve the community with their families around Thanksgiving.

Senior Matthew Mitchell says, “Every year, my mom and I serve at Feed My Starving Children around Thanksgiving.” People who serve in the community agree that it’s a great way to give back and see that your efforts are going somewhere and helping someone else. People here might not struggle with providing for simple basic needs, but many families do. That is why it is so important to serve others in the community. Part of being a Christian means that people should serve others and come beside them to help them get back on their feet.

Many students agree that Thanksgiving break is a great opportunity for service. Many people need help with providing for their basic needs and food banks, kitchens, and organizations help these struggling families by helping put food on the table. Senior Macy Dale says, “My family and I serve through Sack Thanksgiving Hunger. We give meals to families in need who can’t afford it.” It’s great to see that people spread the love of God through their acts of service to the community. These people receiving these meals are so thankful and the people serving them feel so blessed by making a difference in the community.

Thanksgiving creates a feeling of thankfulness but also creates a connection with others in your community. There are many other types of service than just food banks too like serving at a retirement home or through Operation Christmas Child. Thanksgiving time is not only a time to be thankful, but also a time to help others.
