The #7 LSU tigers and the #22 Texas A&M Aggies put on a wild show in a high scoring seven-overtime thriller. This 74-72 Aggie victory features the highest scoring game in NCAA history. From controversial officiating to late game heroics, this game is sure to be one for the history books.

Right from the start, LSU had a chance to avoid this heartbreaking loss. Before all of the overtime heroics, Ed Orgeron, Head Coach of the Tigers, led his team to come from behind and outscore Texas A&M 21-7 in the second half. This would give LSU a 31-24 lead with minutes left in the second half. LSU had the chance to end the game by getting a first down, but they failed to do so and had to punt the ball. Texas A&M would get the ball back with only 1:23 left to play. On second-and-10 at their own 47, Texas A&M Quarterback Kellen Mond dropped a wild snap and struggled to pick it up. He then threw an interception to LSU safety Grant Delpit. At that moment, LSU players dumped a bucket of Gatorade on Coach Orgeron. They were celebrating, and the LSU Nation was ecstatic with excitement. But upon further review, it appeared that Mond’s knee was down when he bent over to pick up the wild snap, giving A&M fans a small breath of life.

On fourth-and-18 from their own 39 yard-line, against all odds, Texas A&M Receiver Quartney Davis caught a 20-yard pass to get them the first down. Then, with one second on the clock, Mond threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Davis to send the game into overtime.

From overtime to overtime and controversy to controversy, both teams continued to score an even number of points in 6 overtimes. In the seventh overtime, after a failed LSU 2-point conversion, the score was deadlocked at 72. Texas A&M had the chance to end the game with a 2-point conversion of their own. After a series of penalties on both teams, including a Texas A&M false start, the ball was pushed to the 5-yard-line. Mond dropped back, scanned the field, and found Wide Receiver Kendrick Rogers for the game-winning pass.
