Meet Colton Smith

LionNationOnline catches up with Varsity Swimmer Junior Colton Smith who finished first in three events at the TAPPS regional meet and took second in State in the 100 backstroke.

Age you started swimming?

6 years old.

How many hours a week do you practice?

20 hours per week.

What events do you swim, and why?

I swim everything, but if I had to choose a favorite, I would pick backstroke.

Name one thing you are working to improve right now?

My endurance for distance events.

Pre-race ritual?

I visualize the race and make sure I’m loose.

How would your teammates describe you?

Hardworking and encouraging.

Who is your role model, and why?

Michael Phelps post 2012. He’s the best and came back from a public mistake.

What gives you an edge?

I’m competitive.

What’s the hardest thing about swimming?

Being consistent.

Name a hobby you enjoy outside sports?

Reading. My favorite author is Brandon Sanderson.

Name something that stresses you out, and why?

English papers, that’s self-explanatory.

Name something you are a pro at?

AP Calculus, AB.

Name a recent accomplishment you are proud of?

Surviving a training trip to Arizona. The practice was really hard, but I pushed through.

Before I die, I want to ___________, and why?

Swim at the Olympic trials. It is my goal right now.

Name one thing about yourself that most people don’t know?

I have a sail boat, and I know how to sail.
